President’s Message January 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Year 2020 was a challenge for all of us.  Thanks to the efforts of so many members, we finished last year financially strong and looking forward to a much better 2021.

Sometime mid-year we anticipate (make that ‘hope’) that many of us will have been vaccinated.  This will allow ramping up of in-person meetings, plein air outings, art-in-the-park (AIP), alternative art exhibitions and hosting community painting projects.  In the interim, the Guild is creating “studios” around members who share painting mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel with others to follow as interest grows. Studios will connect like-minded members to share knowledge and resources.  This will start to rollout in January using Zoom to connect and share. Further information is found in this month’s newsletter.

Upcoming Guild meetings (via Zoom unless otherwise noted) are listed below in the newsletter, and through June on our website calendar.  Instructions on how to easily join Guild meetings via Zoom (no registration required) will be sent via email one day prior to the meeting. If you would like to join the informal Thursday Open Painting Sessions (1-3:30 pm in the Harwich Community Center) just show up with your painting supplies. Capacity due to coronavirus is limited to ten people to allow safe distancing. For more information, Contact Chris Banks  [email protected].  Details regarding our March 20, Chatham Bars Inn ‘Winter Art Series’ will be forthcoming.  The effort is being coordinated by Sedona Summer and Karen Shortsleeve.

Karen Shortsleeve, Membership Chair, will be sending each of you a revised membership form and a reminder that 2021 dues ($35 Artists/$25 Associate) are now payable. The new form allows members to provide information regarding interests and skill sets that will be used to enhance member engagement. Mail completed forms, with checks if applicable, to Guild of Harwich Artists, P.O. Box 382, Harwich Port 02646. Amy Banford has volunteered to assist Erica Strzepek to maintain the Guild website. Together they will ensure that the website calendar and event postings are timely and informative. Maryrose Reynolds Schofield has volunteered to assist at the Welcome Desk at our monthly meetings and promoting Guild mugs and hats. If you would like to learn more about volunteering for the Guild contact me at [email protected].

The Guild’s 41-year-old mission is to encourage artists and those interested in art through education, fellowship, and exhibition while engaging in charitable and educational works. As a member of the Guild, you have access to a variety of events, venues, and activities; and eligibility to apply to exhibit in the Gallery of the Guild of Harwich Artists located in Harwich Port.  If you have not already, please remit your 2021 dues ($35 Artists / $25 Assoc.) by end of the month. For membership new/renewal form go to www.guildofharwichartists.org.

Stay safe and positive…painting does help focus the mind.

Michael Rudden, GHA President
