The Guild of Harwich Artists’ October meeting, Saturday, October 21, 2017, 2:00 at the Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak Street, Harwich, will feature guest artist Roberta Silbret, who will demonstrate Sumi-e, the Asian approach to painting, which stresses the essence of the landscape or person, the feeling. The method of the Chinese brush stroke is light, airy, and freeing. Sumi-e is simple, direct, and yet very exotic.
Roberta is a master teacher, who studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. She exhibited at the Grand Palais by invitation of Charles DeGaulle where the French Impressionists had their first show. She visited China two years ago, to study with brush painting masters.
She is currently teaching at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Her next class starts Tuesday, October 24, for three Tuesdays. Roberta will also be bringing some supplies for others to try Sumi-e.
