The Guild of Harwich Artists Monthly Meeting on March 17, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at the Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak Street, Harwich, will feature guest artist Lance Walker. The public is invited, refreshments will be served.
Lance Walker is primarily a self taught artist who resides on Cape Cod. He focuses mainly on landscape and maritime subjects.
He creates his studio work from his plein air studies, his imagination and his experience. Understanding the necessity of painting from life, he paints outdoors to gain what he calls “visual understanding” and “color notes”. Walker says “early in my plein air experience, I was overly concerned with completing a painting. Now, I simply gather information.” Lance’s inspiration comes from the Hudson River School artists. He travels throughout New England to paint the places they painted; like the Oxbow, the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, to better understand the landscape painting experience.
Lance gives demonstrations to various art associations, teaches the plein air experience to artists and contributes to various charities.
His classes are located at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Yarmouth. He has participated in exhibitions at the Copley in Boston, The Cahoon Museum, a solo show at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and has work in the permanent collection of the Cape Cod Museum of Art. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Cape Cod Art Association.
His work can be seen at the Cape Cod Picture Framing & Restoration Gallery in Dennis and his paintings, works in progress and studio can be found at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Yarmouth.
Lance Walker has been a faithful member of the team at Cape Cod Picture Framing & Restoration in Dennis, MA, working as a design specialist. Inside this unique frame shop, Lance and his artwork can be found.
