The Guild of Harwich Artists hosted artist and teacher Michael Giaquinto at the April monthly meeting on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Using his favorite media, acrylic paint on canvas, Giaquinto demonstrated how artists go about deciding what to paint, or how they might begin a new work.
Giaquinto is the Exhibitions Curator at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA. He studied art at Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA; North Carolina State University, where he studied art history. He taught art at St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis, MA. He teaches acrylic painting and drawing for adults at the Weny Education Center at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, MA, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA. He has held workshops at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA and the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill in Truro, MA.
Giaquinto was awarded “Craftsman of the Year” by the Early American Life Magazine in 2001 and 2005. He is shown in Deborah Forman’s book, Contemporary Cape Cod Artists on Abstraction, 2015.
The Guild of Harwich Artists hold monthly meetings September through May at the Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak Street, Harwich. Each meeting features a well-known Cape Cod artist demonstrator. All programs are free and open to the public.
