Student Honored by the Guild of Harwich Artists

Abigail Kelley, graduating from Monomoy Regional High School, is the recipient of the guild’s scholarship of $1000.

Abigal Kelley will be attending the Maine College of Art next Fall. The Guild chose Abigail based on her accomplishments in her AP 3D Art class, her teacher recommendations, a portfolio submission, and her interview. During the interview, she discussed her senior capstone project, a study of folktales involving the human transformation. She selected stories of Native American, Japanese, and Celtic origin. She created multimedia artworks based on the tales. The artworks involved drawing, painting, block-printing, costume design, hand sewing, writing, and bookbinding. Abigail explains her fascination with and inspiration from the folktales, “These stories come from cultures all over the world. They can draw us together because we are so alike.”
