Nauset Dune Shack #10, 9.5 x 7.5 inches, Watercolor

Michael Rudden

Taking up transparent watercolor painting upon retiring to the Cape in 2015 has helped me loosen up after 45-years of a rewarding architecture/planning practice. Joining the Guild allowed me to find a mentor and fellowship while joining other Guild members to support art and our local community. The image featured here is from my recently-completed series of paintings of the dozen remaining dune shacks at Nauset Beach South.

I joined the Guild in 2016 after finding them in Art-in-the-Park in Harwich Port. After serving as Publicity Chair for two years I now am privileged to serve as the Guild’s President (2020-2021). In this small way, I hope to give back to the Town of Harwich, a wonderful town my wife and I quickly learned to love.

The Guild is committed to putting paint brushes into the hands of our local community, many of whom were doing so for the first time. The Mystery Painting Puzzle done during #ArtWeek 2019 and the Guild’s annual fall Make-it-Take-it community painting event were well-attended.

Exhibiting Locations: I continue to show my work at various Guild art exhibitions including our annual Member Show and on-going art series at local banks, restaurants, and resorts. I look forward to someday applying to the juried Art Gallery of The Guild of Harwich Artists in Harwich Port.
